Number three of Donegal Tweed neckwear pieces, last week I reeled off the loom , and now it is finished, and this one warped with the help of Juno who’s colorway is so similar that I’m naming the colorway “Juno” . . .
I’ve woven this one with a larger dent reed on my Ashford Knitters loom than the last two, a 12.5 dent reed, and think I’ve decided that it is the perfect size for this single ply fingering/lace weight yarn. Now three finished, no more Donegal Tweed and so on to the rest of the yarn in my drawers.
♣ Weaving Notes ♣
- Yarn: Isager Tweed made in Donegal, also known as Donegal Tweed by other brands.
- Loom: Ashford Knitters Loom, 20″.
- Reed: 12.5 dent reed, optimal I think, for the Donegal Tweed.
- Sett: Warp = 12.5 epi and weft = 9 ppi, 1 thread in the heddle/hole, and 1 thread in the dent/slot.
- Direct warp method.
- Selvedge: Doubled up two outer most selvedge warp yarns, and used a temple.
- Finished: Not wet finished, but steamed, tied a simple knotted fringe (knots could be taken out and twisted fringe worked, but I prefer the soft yarn strands).
- Measurements: 76″ long x 19″ wide, not including 4″ fringe.
- Weight: 246 grams. Yarn has 218 y per 50 g so that is about 1090 total yards.
How the hell did I miss this one!!! I’m a dork. Love the Juno colorway. For some odd reason it reminds me of the late 80’s Ralph Lauren looks. Perennial luxury.
I’ll take that as a big compliment, being that it reminds you of Ralph Lauren from the Eighties, because well, I guess I agree with you. xx
You know, the whole riding boots and tweed jackets
Yes, in that country Lauren steriotype, whether horses or the mossy woods in the life, tweed is ever present it seems.
Oh, and I love that ” perennial luxury ” !
This is so awesome. Years ago I made a sampler quilt in black and tans that I called my Sasha quilt. My daughter, Erin now owns it and has designed her guest bedroom around it with gold walls and accents. It is a stunning room. This wrap reminds of that quilt. Love it! ❤️V
Aww Virginia, how utterly heartwarming, because Sasha was your beloved black and tan shepherd! I am so happy to know she was the inspiration of Erin’s interior design, and her ever-loving memory in the quilt. Thank you! xx
Hello! I am just about to learn to weave on my 24” ash cord rigid heddle loom with 12.5 dent reed. Your wraps are beautiful and I wonder if you can share how much yarn they required? As a knitter going to weaving I am struggling to translate pattern info into language I understand, especially in terms of quantity of yarn!
Hi Jennifer, how long do you want your finished scarf/wrap, and how wide? The wrap in this post was 72″ long including fringe, so I think with loom waste and take-up, it would be safe to say I used 100″ or more length from the apron rod to the peg, or longer. If you’re using 12.5 dent reed, that is your ends-per-inch (epi) or number of warp threads per inch. Also, what yarn are you using? I would love to help you figure it out.
Oh, so I edited in my estimated yardage for the finished piece, which was around 1100 yards… at the finished dimensions I made.
